Come along to Nest in the Woods for some great family time in nature with your toddler. Our forest school sessions are led by qualified forest school practitioners who will ensure that everybody has a great time and give all the opportunity to get closer to nature and your toddler. To come, you will need to bring a young one but we welcome parents, grandparents, nannies, childminders and carers.
We play outside pretty much whatever the weather, so plenty of layers and robust waterproof outerwear and wellies are a must as we are invariably quite muddy.
Over the course of the half-term the children have the opportunity to learn and progress in the skills and activities we do as we follow a programme and involve the children and adults in planning future sessions. We will also see how nature develops and changes over time and have time to really notice what is going on. They will have the opportunity to make friends as the same children will be there each week.
So what do we do? Well, all sorts! We play on the play trail, balance and jump off logs, watch worms, build dens, play games, do nature crafts, create muddy morsels in the mud kitchen, make music and tell stories…. and lots of other things……and we always have a campfire with hot snacks and drinks.
Babies in slings are very welcome, but the wood is not very buggy friendly.
We look forward to seeing you!
Please note: We need a minimum of 6 bookings for the sessions to go ahead, we will notify you 12 hours in advance if we need to postpone a session and apply a refund for that session through PayPal.
Engage your children with nature early and let them enjoy the freedom to run in the sun, play in the mud and explore the wonderful great outdoors.
We go on nature walks, play on the play trail, cook up wonders on our mud kitchen, play hide and seek, tell stories and sing….and we always have a campfire for our pancakes and crumpets. No two sessions are the same, but vary according to the season, the weather and the interests of the children.
We have a simple theme each week eg colour, shape, number, letters: but as we are very much about child initiated play and learning we will observe and encourage the children’s own play themes… so we might be doing a lot of jumping off things, or jumping in things – (mostly muddy puddles or piles of leaves). All our sessions are designed for the children to have fun, explore and inquire about the woodland environment and for adults to share in this special nature time. We have lots of great imaginative play taking place.
It’s often very muddy, so wellies and splash suits/ski suits are highly recommended, along with gloves and hats for colder weather.
